As expected, I have had a lot of responses to my Daily Paradox “A necessary strike”, some agreeing, some disagreeing. Almost all were polite and rational. I am very grateful for all of them. Thank you. I will try to answer each one but it will take me a while to do so.
One correspondent mentioned ‘bias’ as my problem. It is certainly true that, like everyone, I do have biases about most things. On this occasion my biases are mostly against what Prime Minister Netanyahu has actually done and pro Iran, a country of which I have some experience and whose ordinary people I love.
However, I want to make it clear that in this matter I definitely do have a different bias. It is born of my living through the start of WWII. I am still very haunted by British Prime Minister Chamberlain waving the piece of paper from Herr Hitler promising ‘Peace in our time’.
More than a million people subsequently died. I knew a few of them.
The world is different now. Trades may think they are not globalized. Communications certainly are. The price of a global community is that we learn to live together. We aren’t doing very well at it yet. Subjugation of one by another will make it worse.
I am totally biased in favour of the survival of humanity.
