Make no mistake, the humanities battle now enjoined under the banner of MAGA is a fight to the death. Not a fight exclusively against you and I, nor a war against countries outside the United States. It is not a colour based battle. Education won’t win it but will be a weapon in its armoury. Religion won’t mediate it but will appear as a small-arms component when useful. Common sense has become the sea-anchor that has been cut adrift.

MAGA stands for Might Against Good Again.

The Might derives from our seemingly uncontrollable rush to excess. Money is good. Too much money is clearly bad. Speed is good. Too fast is reckless. Competition is good but excessive competition is disastrous. Food is good, greed for food is a killer. Greed for food causes hunger, as much a killer as too much food. Discipline is good. Excessive discipline is bullying. You could go on forever except that forever is now a limited time for humanity.

There will still be people of sorts, automatons for the most part, people who cannot sense, who have little or no feelings. And there will still be a handful of MAGA people attended by billions of robopeople. They will be the Most Aggressive Gain All people. We see some of them already. Their acolytes who aspire to the same level of adulation flock to join the MAGA throng. They do not know the price of membership. Poor things, they think it is still cash. When they discover it is their existence it will be too late.

MAGA stands for Most Aggressive Gain All.

It won’t all happen without a fight. The semblance of anti-American alliances is already visible. The war won’t be as much a Gaza attack as a Red Sea disruption. Think of childhood days on the sea shore. “I won’t let you have the trowel unless you give me the bucket.” Of course, that usually deteriorated into a fight – in those days without nuclear bombs. The difference is that it will all happen so quickly. A President will get stung, will say ‘Ow!’ and a troglodyte will hear ‘Now’. In the interests of speed the button will be pushed.

Is there no hope, then? Is humanity doomed? Can you – can I – do something towards  stabilising the rocky craft we are in? Will our legacies be “they stood and watched”? Do we actually want to do anything about it? Do we care?

Speaking for myself, I care deeply. I care for the love I have seen and received and want my many grandchildren and great grandchildren to enjoy. I care for all those who didn’t have such a wonderful time. May their descendants catch up with what they lost. The expression of joy with life has no price in gold but an infinite price in thought. May everyone be able to enjoy it. The beauty of nature, the delight of communications, the thrill of achievement for others, the freedom to be decent. Wow, open that as the present for your New Year. It’s all you need.

Are we expecting governments to achieve it? Do we think that material hoarding will be the key to such happiness? Is it someone else’s responsibility?

If the answer to any of these is even a tentative ‘yes’ we are on the slope to despair. Rome wasn’t built by the architects, nor by the senators. It was built by the bricklayers. There is no greater job in the world than a bricklayer.

Will you be a bricklayer? If so, May All Graciousness Assist you. The best MAGA.

Let’s start by persuading President Trump that what he really means is MEGA.

Make Everywhere Great Again.

A wonderful legacy.

Good morning
